Wisconsin’s First Net-Zero Electricity Neighborhood: SunVest Solar Proud to Play its Part

Three companies banded together to develop, build, and produce Wisconsin’s first net-zero electricity neighborhood in New Berlin, WI. Neumann Developments, Tim O’Brien Homes, and SunVest Solar Inc., all under parent company, Neumann Companies, partnered to launch a neighborhood of 34 homes, all powered by the sun.

How this Net-Zero Electricity Neighborhood Works

SunVest Solar ensured that all houses were designed to produce enough energy to power the home through a full calendar year. The neighborhood is connected to the grid so when the sun is not shining, homeowners will never need to worry if they will have power. Red Fox Crossing is located near Sunnyslope Road and Grange Avenue in New Berlin. Hear from Neumann Companies’ CEO, Matt Neumann, on CBS 58.

Groundbreaking started in May of 2017, the first model home was built and officially opened July 21, 2018 and the last of the 34 homes is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2020. Homeowners are scheduled to begin moving into their net-zero homes in just two weeks, at the beginning of August 2020. Check out the project video here.

The builder, Tim O’Brien Homes, offered 16 different floor plans ranging from three to five bedrooms, one plan even featuring an in-law suite. Red Fox Crossing features both two-story homes and ranches between 1,900 square feet and 3,200 square feet; priced at $400,000 – $600,000. Each home has a solar array system ranging from six to ten kilowatts, and each home will begin to see a return on their net-zero electricity investment within the first seven years.
